The bastard sword is a heavy one-handed cutting weapon in Omega 0.90.4. Despite its size, it leaves the ready hand free while providing base damage 16.[1]
Generation and appearance
It is a common level-3 random weapon and may also enter pawn-shop stock or be acquired as a weapon. The name bastard sword is shown before and after identification and when cursed.[2][3][4][5]
Data and mechanics
A bastard sword weighs 50, has base damage 16, grants +8 hit, and has a base value of 250 Au. It has fragility 15 and is not treated as two-handed. Its plus affects both hit and damage, while a negative plus also signals a cursed random copy.[1][3][6]
Effects and interactions
Its normal cut gains the Strength damage bonus and it can perform a lunge. It cannot riposte. The sword can be thrown or used to tunnel; positive plus can absorb an item-damage attempt by decreasing before the weapon shatters.[7][8][9]
Strategy
The bastard sword offers high one-handed damage without sacrificing the ready hand. A katana has the same damage and weight with 2 more hit, so an equally enchanted katana is the direct upgrade. Until then, a positive-plus bastard sword remains competitive and is much lighter than either two-handed level-5 heavy weapon.[10][7][8][9]
