The Thieves' Guild is Rampart's hidden society of thieves and its nighttime appraisal and fencing service. Membership improves Dexterity, Agility and practical thieving abilities, with a progression of useful spells. The final promotion requires the Justiciar's Badge.[1]

City location
Thieves' Guild has no fixed street address. The four city sectors below show all 64 shuffled building slots as x; only the actual assignment in your game identifies this business. Read its sign and use the article's travel and opening-hour details.
These are spoiler maps. Coordinates are (column, row), starting at zero. Letters and highlighted symbols are article keys for sites and initial placements, not a literal game screenshot or a promise that a creature remains there.

Finding and joining
The guild's position varies between games. Its entrance is a closed but unlocked door, so finding it means investigating buildings rather than looking for a permanently fixed map coordinate. Discover the entrance to add it to city travel. In daylight the guild reports that no thieves are around and provides no services.
Choose a to join. Dues are 1,000 Au, plus 1,000 x (12 - current Dexterity) / 9 rounded toward zero, plus 5 x alignment, with a minimum of 100 Au. A neutral character pays 1,000 at Dexterity 12, 334 at Dexterity 18, or 100 at Dexterity 21.
There is no minimum Dexterity or competing-guild restriction. Even a slightly Lawful character can join, provided alignment is at most +10; the guild does not recheck alignment for later advancement. This allows a character at +1 to join both the guild and the Order without first becoming Chaotic.
Read the quoted dues before accepting. If you agree to pay without enough cash, the thieves take all your carried gold and do not enroll you.
Membership gives a thieve's pick, teaches Object Detection, and raises current and maximum Dexterity and Agility by one each. The joining visit then ends; return for the other services. While in Shadowform, the guild's service does not activate, even though it eventually teaches that spell.[3]
Identification
Appraisal is available to nonmembers for 50 Au per item and members for 5 Au. Choose c, then i for a single item or p for all possessions. Ordinary items receive full identification, including equipment modifiers and blessing state; food receives only its normal food-identification state.
Single-item appraisal charges before item selection, so cancelling still spends the fee. Bulk appraisal counts inventory and pack entries that are not fully identified, with a minimum charge for one item; it does not charge separately for every member of a stack. Already-known food remains below the full-identification state and can be charged for again on later bulk appraisals. Decline the quote when you have nothing useful left to identify.[4][5]
Fencing
Members can choose d to sell selected items or go through the pack. The guild refuses cursed goods, including unequipped ones, and offers two thirds of the item's assessed value. Identification affects that value, so identify valuable unknown loot before selling it. Knight's Pawn Shop ordinarily pays one half of the same assessment.
You can choose a quantity from a stack. Payment is rounded down after calculating the chosen quantity's total, which can differ slightly from multiplying the rounded per-item quotation. Selling the last item of an equipped stack removes its equipment effect.
Fenced items are disposed of, not displayed in a buyback stock. Selling a unique artifact can allow it to be generated again, but does not guarantee where or when it will reappear. Use the pawn shop when a particular item's continued availability on a shelf matters more than the higher sale price.[6][7]
Advancement and abilities
Choose b for ordinary promotions. Requirements are cumulative Thieves' Guild experience, shared from experience awards with other guilds that maintain an experience pool. Repeat the selection for additional qualifying promotions. Rank itself improves pickpocketing, lockpicking, trap disarming and component recovery, and safecracking; those actions are not all exclusive to members.
| Rank | Requirement | Spell or equipment | Attribute gain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Member | Join | Object Detection; thieve's pick | +1 Dexterity, +1 Agility |
| Apprentice Thief | 400 guild XP | Levitation | +1 Dexterity |
| Thief | 1,500 guild XP | Invisibility | +1 Agility |
| Master Thief | 4,000 guild XP | Apportation | +1 Dexterity, +1 Agility |
| Shadowlord | Already Master Thief; character level above the incumbent's; bring the Justiciar's Badge | Shadowform | +2 Dexterity, +2 Agility |
Gains affect both current attributes and maxima, totaling +5 Dexterity and +5 Agility through Shadowlord. The final promotion happens on a nighttime visit before the menu and consumes the badge. If you become Master Thief during the visit, leave and return for this final check. The initial Shadowlord, Shadowspawn, has recorded level 10, so the initial threshold is character level 11.
The guild's lockpick can be used immediately by a member despite its initially unknown appearance. Nonmembers can also use an identified pick. Rank improves the success check, but does not open secret doors or the specially protected locks at the bottom of a dungeon.
Speaking to a sneak-thief or master thief causes it to recognize a member and vanish. This departure does not return items it has already stolen, and it provides no ordinary kill drops or experience. The Shadowlord is not one of these disappearing thieves.[8]
Strategy
The guild offers a practical mix of utility spells, better sale prices and inexpensive appraisal for many character builds. Membership is especially attractive when unidentified valuables and repeat trips to town become common. The competing cost is the entry fee and the experience share that slows other guild advancement.
For the badge quest, pickpocketing the Justiciar can avoid the severe alignment loss and guard response of a killing. It is a skill check, not a guaranteed theft. Stop once the badge is obtained: trying to steal from an empty inventory makes the target hostile.
Alternatively, blessed acquirement can select the badge from miscellaneous things. This bypasses its exclusion from normal random loot, and the promotion checks the item itself, not whether it was stolen.[9]
Membership and promotion do not themselves make you progressively more Chaotic in this version. The crimes you perform can: successful pickpocketing shifts alignment by -1, and opening a private safe shifts it by -4. A Paladin thief must manage actual conduct even though the two membership rules can coexist.
